Shoe Firm Leases Area In Biddeford Building

Machinery for the manufacture of ladies novelty shoes will move into Building 14 A of the former Saco Lowell shops in Biddeford starting Saturday. Biddeford Footwear Inc. leased 11,000 square feet on the third floor, with room to expand. Maynard J. Christopher expects 35 to 50 workers to begin, with hiring through the Maine Employment Security Commission.

Senate Sends low in spirits Area Bill To Eisenhower

The Senate sent to President Eisenhower a 251 million dollar bill to aid chronically distressed areas with federal loans and grants to create jobs in industrial and rural regions. Democrats aim to push it in the 1956 election, but a veto seems likely and override chances are slim. Senator Kennedy and Humphrey backed the measure in West Virginia despite campaigning elsewhere.

Old Orchard Beach Voters OK 153100 for Town Projects

Beach voters approved 153100 for town projects at a special meeting. all articles passed except a vocational arts wing at the high school which was postponed 91 13. Sewer funds were granted to build an interceptor sewer line from Mullen to Atlantic, with general obligation securities of 120000 authorized. A new 1000 gallon fire truck costing up to 23000 was approved, with funds from Major Equipment Fire and a five year pay plan. A three member committee will study a new fire station, and the town may borrow 264000 more this year with bank support. By law study funded from surplus and electrical inspector appointment were approved, plus notes to fund street improvements on Milliken Street.

Rights Bill Is Signed at Washington

President Eisenhower signed the 1960 civil rights bill in a brief ceremony, praising it as a historic step toward equality. Martell Indicted in Two Limerick Murders by Grand Jury

Henry Pete Martell of Limerick was indicted on two murder charges by the Alfred Grand Jury. One count alleges the murder of Edward Martell on April 25 in Limerick. the other accuses the murder of Amanda Martell on the same date in Limerick. The jury returned twenty three indictments, four of them secret.
