Reed Signs Two Money Bills Boosts Education Aid
Augusta Gov Reed signs a bill authorizing the State Board of Education to accept federal education aid without matching funds, and another bill appropriating 250000 for legislative expenses. The swift action came as finance officials warned of a near depletion of the legislative account, with 20000 on hand and 29000 in payroll due soon. The Senate passed the 119.9 million current services budget, and Reed signed it to maintain the 1959 legislative service level.
