Cancer drug near human trials at Dana Center

A powerful new anticancer drug AD 32 shows promise after successful animal tests and could reach human use in six months. Developed by Drs. Emil Frei Mervyn Israel and Edward J. Modest, the drug is said to be ten times more effective and safer than adriamycin. The announcement came during the Dana Cancer Center dedication in Brookline Massachusetts. Bank probe handed to AG

The state Bureau of Consumer Protection finished its inquiry into Pepperell Trust mortgage recall and sent the results to Attorney General Joseph Brennan. Bureau Superintendent John Quinn called the submission "not routinely done" and declined to disclose specifics, saying the attorney general would provide answers. Angolan Court Sentences Mercenaries to Death by Firing Squad

Four mercenaries including Daniel Gearhart of Kensington Maryland and three Britons were sentenced to death by firing squad in Luanda for selling themselves as mercenaries in the civil war. Others received 16 to 30 years in prison including Gustavo Grillo of Jersey City and Gary Acker of Sacramento. The death sentences require approval by Angolan President Agostinho Neto. A State Department spokesman questioned the ruling under international law.
