Acupuncture Bus Brings Hope To Boston Center Patients

A Portland group sponsors a twice weekly bus ride to the Acupuncture Center of Massachusetts on Boylston Street Boston. Riders from Biddeford and nearby towns seek relief from arthritis and pain. Vic Fleurant reports improved hand control and less tremor after several visits though he did not quit all habits. Other locals also note relief and clearer sinus symptoms during treatments.

Colson is sentenced to prison for obstructing justice

Charles W. Colson, once a top Nixon adviser, receives one to three years in prison and a $5,000 fine for obstructing justice. Judge Gesell imposes the term with surrender by July 8, noting a distorted public image but not leniency. Colson pleaded guilty to obstructing justice arising from a 1971 scheme to mislead and discredit a witness in the Pentagon Papers case.

Suit Filed Against Town Over Old Orchard Square Traffic

Old Orchard Beach merchant Jon Nathanson owner of Jay's takeout stand ice cream shop and candy shop sues town council and police over a traffic and parking ban in the square claiming the ordinance amounts to a taking of private property rights without due process or just compensation. The emergency measure, approved unanimously by the town, hinders access to the southern Old Orchard Street area known as the square. Continued on page 2 column 2.

Yachtsman Motel Seeks injunction over septic discharge

In Kennebunkport Superior Court Judge Harry Glassman heard state arguments to halt Yachtsman Motel on Ocean Avenue from discharging septic effluent into the Kennebunk River. Owners Llewellyn Lloyd-Davies and Florence absent. If granted, motel must cease operations until connected to sewer. BEP permit history and last minute appeal filed.

Shoreland zoning outlined in Old Orchard Beach plan

The conservation commission proposed a shoreland zoning ordinance extending 250 feet from flood plains and water lines. Ocean front areas would be limited residential recreational, while flood plains and marsh areas near Ocean Park and Goosefare Brook would be resource protection districts with strict limits. General development districts would be eliminated. Snowmobiling would be allowed in protection and limited zones under conditions. town attorney review was sought for the snowmobile clause. The measure advances to planning board and town council for final approval by July.

Police Crack Down Hearst Look-a-likes Given Scare

In California a Lipsett family and a friend were stopped by multiple officers who mistook them for Patricia Hearst and SLA captors. After being ordered to the pavement, officers explained the search aims while some bystanders faced gunpoint caution and brief detentions. Police note many stops yield no confirmation of Hearst ties.
