Maine Roundup Grays Ruling on 20 Year State Claim Denied
Assistant Attorney General Leon V. Walker ruled a man’s request for money from the state after 20 years missed the April deadline by two days and should not be paid. Paul Goodwin, 68, claimed both principal and $2,300 interest from an eminent domain case in 1955. The Cumberland County treasurer held funds, but Walker said Goodwin failed to apply by April 21, 20 years after the deposit. The county had offered the principal, while the interest exceeds $4,000. Walker noted the state turned funds to the county in 1955 and Goodwin had knowledge of the deadline, with a court hearing not yet scheduled.
