Old Orchard Beach approves 5 mil tax rate cut

The 1975 tax rate in Old Orchard Beach drops to five mils below 1974, or $35 per $1,000, based on a total valuation of $51.77 million. Two accomplices captured in Michigan prison escape saga

Authorities in Garden City Kansas say Michael Colosky a 21 year old carnival worker and Gertrude Woodbury a 43 year old mother of eight were captured at the Garden City fairgrounds. Both suspects from Webberville Michigan assisted in a helicopter escape from a Southern Michigan Prison. Colosky allegedly piloted the helicopter and forced the pilot to fly out on June 6. Woodbury is believed to have served as go between and driven decoy cars away from the landing site.

Postal Rate Hike Pondered by Washington Officials

AP reports Postal Service officials warn large mail users would quit the service if the judge’s rate recommendations take effect. They say the agency would have little to do besides delivering letters and overall postage costs would rise. The service urged the Postal Rate Commission to reject Administrative Law Judge Seymour Wenner’s May 28 proposal to cut first class letters from 10 to 8 cents while boosting rates on parcels printed matter and bulk mailings.

Arenal Volcano Erupts Killing Two in Costa Rica

In Costa Rica Mt Arenal, a 5374 foot volcano about 100 miles north of San Jose, erupted sending lava and flames. Radio Reloj reports the eruption began Monday morning and by Tuesday night ashes showered fields and villages, causing at least two deaths and injuries to several people.
