New England Women’s Book Fair aims to honor women writers
In Biddeford early July the New England Women’s Book Fair showcases literature by and about women with displays, an art exhibit, and poetry readings. Promoters include Joanne Forman and Beverly Karvonides noting women’s long literary contribution since ancient times. The event runs July 2–3 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. at 207 Main St with readings at 7:30 p.m. each night.

York County Tax Rate Drops Slightly for 28 Towns
York County set its tax rate at 61 cents per thousand dollars of state valuation, down one cent from last year. Biddeford will pay about 78,995 in taxes, down roughly 1,200 from year. The county projects 670,085 in total local taxes with 1,102,955 budget for services and sources from district courts and federal revenue sharing.
