Reform Bill Enacted Cuts Maine Milk Commission to Four
The Maine Legislature sent to Governor Longley a reform measure reducing the seven member Maine Milk Commission to four public members plus the agriculture commissioner. Public members must have no financial ties to the dairy industry. Prices would be set by the lowest bottling cost in Maine dairies, while prior retail price powers were mostly retained. Also, the Senate did not override Longley’s veto of a utility rate study tax.
