Biddeford Firemen Fight Grass Blaze

Biddeford firefighters extinguished a grass fire on both sides of the old Saco-Lowell Building 14 now occupied by Westland Shoe Co. Careless cigarette tosses from windows were named as the apparent cause by Fire Chief Arthur King. A woods fire on Hill Street extension prompted a five hour battle, likely started by children playing nearby. Slowed by toppled trees and shifting winds, the blaze was subdued. A note from New York state mentions it is illegal to use dogs for hunting bear deer or skunk.
