Pomona Heads Toward Honolulu After Fire Forces Abandon Ship

The jinx ship Pomona headed back to Honolulu after a fire in the engine room forced the new crew to abandon ship 100 miles southwest of Oahu. The Libe­rian freighter, en route to Formosa, carried 30 crew members who were rescued and later placed aboard the Pomona again as tug support arrived. The vessel’s past captain was killed with an ax in May, prompting the old crew’s refusal to sail.

Firm To Locate In Arundel Maine Division Opens On Route 1

The Schenectady Concrete Products Co Inc will operate a Maine division at the former Superior Auto Parts site on Route 1 in Arundel near the Biddeford line. The plant, to be known as Northern Precast Inc, will begin operation as soon as possible and hire eight to ten workers.
