Nixon to Withdraw 25,000 U.S. Troops in Vietnam

President Nixon announced the immediate redeployment of about 25,000 U.S. troops from Vietnam following talks with South Vietnamese leader Nguyen Van Thieu at Midway Island. New York Bank Raises Prime Rate to 8 Percent

Five Maine parochial schools close forcing public system load

Public education in five Maine communities would face higher enrollments next fall after Roman Catholic parochial schools announced closures. Diocese of Portland officials said five schools staffed by Sisters of Mercy would not reopen and that parish facilities would be used to accommodate displaced students. Spain seals road to Gibraltar locking out workers

Spain closed the road to the Rock of Gibraltar at midnight Sunday, leaving about 4,600 Spanish workers including barbers, cobblers, bakers, and others in La Linea disconnected from their jobs inside the British enclave. The La Linea customs post at the base of the 2.5 mile peninsula was shut as part of Franco's plan to cripple Gibraltar economically and press Britain to yield the Rock, which most Gibaltarians oppose.

Paris AP dispatch reports North Vietnam denounces as a crude farce the Nixon Thieu pledge to withdraw 25 000 U S troops from South Vietnam by August end.
