Color newsreels from June 3 show Edward White during the Gemini mission. He moves at 17 500 miles per hour in sunlight, with the American flag on his sleeve visible as he tests jet thrust in space.
Gov. Reed signed revisions to minimum wage and workmen's compensation and approved pay raises for state employees including legislators and the governor. The package, part of a bipartisan budget, increases salaries set to take effect January 1967, costing about two million dollars over two years and boosting the governor’s pay and expense funds.
Thirty three American jets hit the Vinh supply depot in North Viet Nam inflicting heavy damage amid intense anti aircraft fire. Ground crews reported 23 tons of bombs dropped and noted plans returned safely.
Astronauts James A. McDivitt and Edward H. White II completed a four day space flight with minimal physical issues. They may stay aboard the USS Wasp until Wednesday morning while preparations for return to Houston proceed. President Johnson praised the mission and invited the crew to his Texas ranch, while space officials look toward longer Gemini missions and a possible seven day flight in August.
