Maine to hold short special session June 14
Maine lawmakers are ordered back to the Capitol on June 14 for a brief session to address the state budget and eight vetoed bills. Governor James B. Longley says the 9:30 a.m. start will limit debate to the spending measure, school aid, social programs, student aid, and University of Maine funding, with vetos ready for action. The House previously killed a similar spending bill, narrowing passage to pay hikes favored by public employee unions. House Speaker John L. Martin and Senate President Joseph Sewall expect quick approval of the compromise.
