Local residents and visitors spent weekends and holidays across Kennebunk and nearby towns. Families traveled to lakes, ponds and state parks while others visited relatives in Eastport Ashland Madison and Cambridge. Several workers and retirees were noted at homes in Kennebunkport Wells and Cape Porpoise.
AP TV writer notes Nanette Fabray Tony Randall and others struggle to salvage a tepid musical on NBC clocking 60 minutes. The revue misfires with stale lines and a weak plot as TV learns original musical comedy remains elusive.
Mr and Mrs Robert Fontaine hosted a Sunday steak barbecue at their Ossipee Island cottage in Kennebunk for their daughter and son in law Mr and Mrs Maurice Hickey of Kennebunk. The Hickeys will move June 6 to Norfolk Virginia where Mr Hickey will join The Virginian Pilot and Ledger Star advertising department. Attending included Timothy and Sean Hickey and guests Mr and Mrs Kenneth Curtis of Cape Elizabeth and Mr and Mrs Paul Deschambeault and sons.
The Old Orchard Beach Kiwanis club hosted the annual banquet at the high school to install Key Club officers. John Wortman installed President Arthur Begin and other officers with William Cook presiding as master of ceremonies. The club advisor Richard North spoke on yearly activities. A directors meeting was scheduled for Thursday at John Wortman's home.
The Saturday wedding of Donna May Johnson to Benjamin Franklin Coyne at Christchurch Kennebunkport featured a double ring ceremony with Rev. Fred Holmberg officiating. A Wells Junior High awards assembly followed at Wells Elementary with sports, cheerleaders, glee club, band, and scholastic honors highlighted by Excellence in Scholarship certificates.
The Wells First and Second Congregational youths plan a 5 30 p m covered dish social at the parsonage of Rev and Mrs Lewis A Chase on Post Road. The Wells Second Congregational Ladies Benevolent Society meets this afternoon at the church vestry. Nurse Norman Holder notes blood shortages and urges donations via Wells-Ogunquit Health Service and Wells High annex phone 6 2771. A representative of the Internal Revenue Service will be in the area.
The Abbott Verville AMVETS auxiliary closes its season with a final meeting at the Post home on Walnut Street at 7 30 p m Thursday. A local office at 18 South Street Biddeford will open Friday from 8 a m to 5 p m to assist the public with Internal Revenue matters.
The final realtors meeting of the season will be held Tuesday June 7 at the Shawmut Inn Tur bot's Creek Kennebunkport under the York County Board of Realtors A social hour starts at 6 pm dinner at 7 with Frederic C O'Connor Augusta Maine Industrial Building Authority manager as guest speaker Directors of local banks are invited to attend Brief business session lists John D Downing Richard E Farnsworth Kennebunk and Viola Merrick Kittery as new names.
