BBC records reveal quirky world of sound in the British Library
The BBC holds over half a million recordings valued around 1.5 million dollars. Lenin's voice appears as a high tenor, Valentino sang with an Italian accent, Browning flubbed lines, and 315 versions of the Blue Danube exist alongside diverse renditions. The collection includes Edison cylinders from 1888 and a 14 inch Caruso Pathe from 1898, with a Queen Victoria recording kept under strict conditions.
