Ehrlichman Convicted in Spying Plot at Elisberg Psychiatrist Office

John Ehrlichman was found guilty on conspiracy to violate constitutional rights and lying to the FBI and a Watergate grand jury over the 1971 break in at Dr. Lewis Fielding’s Beverly Hills office. Sentencing set for July 31. appeals expected. Co-defendants Gordon Liddy Bernard Barker and Eugenio Martinez also convicted last year in the Watergate case.

Armed convicts press for hostage swap at Watergate court

In Washington two armed inmates pressed to trade seven hostages for freedom as 14 detainees were released in a goodwill gesture. The pair, Frank Gorham and Robert Jones, demanded a flight out of the country while negotiations continued with Justice and U.S. Marshals.

Nixon's Mortgage Extended to Six Months

Washington AP reports President Nixon, strapped by taxes, has obtained a six month extension on the final mortgage payment for his San Clemente estate. The due balloon payment of 226,660 was postponed as officials note IRS back taxes of 432,787.

Biddeford Garage Fire Leaves Family Homeless

A Biddeford garage owned by Charles R Turgeon burned yesterday afternoon, destroying a large portion of the structure and an upstairs apartment where his son Raymond, his wife, and two children lived. No injuries were reported. Four fire trucks fought the blaze for about two hours. a damage estimate was not available. The house adjacent suffered minor scorch damage. The fire origin is under investigation and the building was insured.
