Kennebunk Opposes Zoning Change For Liquor Store Site
At a large town meeting more than 350 residents rejected a proposal to rezone a York Street segment from residential to commercial amid fears a State Liquor Commission store could occupy the area. The 154 to 116 vote followed earlier hearings and opposition from residents including Albert W. Emmons and Frederick Perkins Jr. The discussion noted existing commercial activity nearby and potential traffic impacts on a local school, with the liquor store location argued to be better on Route One and in the business district.
