Biddeford Man Held For Theft Case
Associate Judge Gerald Nason found probable cause in a theft charge against Leslie Norton, 23, of Biddeford, held at York County Jail on $5,000 bail for a September term in Superior Court. Norton, identified by Ludger Simard, allegedly stole rings valued at $100 and $200, an $85 watch, and a $100 wallet, fled after assaulting Simard, and hid the loot with a tavern owner unaware of its contents. Simard testified Norton was seen at his apartment yesterday afternoon and detected at the Central Taxi store two hours later. Chief Edgar Sevigny later found the goods, hidden in a bag of clothes given to a tavern owner. Norton did not have counsel and did not testify. In a separate matter, James R. Cadwell, 24, of Augusta, was fined $10 for running a red light on Pool Street at Hill Street.
