Maine Legislature Vetoes Three Bills From 107th Session
Augusta lawmakers returned for what was expected to be the last day of the regular session as Gov. Longley vetoed three bills. One would create a crime victims fund, another would classify lobster boat sternmen as self employed, and the third would require the tax director to justify municipal valuations. Longley cited cost and questioned policy, favoring restitution over state payments, and warned the sternmen bill could set a bad precedent and raise federal tax issues.
