Drysdale and Koufax Eyed for NL All Star Starters

Don Drysdale of Los Angeles and Joey Jay of Cincinnati emerge as contenders to start the National League All Star game while Sandy Koufax’s impressive nine inning no hitter against the Mets raises the stakes. Freddy Hutchinson weighs Koufax’s left handed bid as a perfect foil for a lefty heavy American League lineup. Drysdale and Jay kept names alive with strong Sunday showings and Cardwell delivered a near two hitter in Milwaukee but took the loss on errors. The Giants cling to a half game lead as Willie Mays sparks a late rally to beat the Phillies. Enos Slaughter’s nostalgic baserunning could not offset Don Hoak’s three run triple that sinks the Cardinals on Oldtimers Day.
