Coat key evidence in DeWitt murder trial

Jurors heard that a coat belonging to Diane Belanger was introduced as state evidence in the murder trial of Lawrence DeWitt. The 24 year old Biddeford woman was found dead July 15 1972 after a night with DeWitt and co witness Donald Rumery. Pathologist Dr Joseph OConnor testified the cause of death was multiple stab wounds to the chest abdomen and thigh with no defensive wounds observed. The coat was found May 10 1973 on Old Newtown Road Biddeford and identified by Belanger's mother. DeWitt pleaded not guilty to murder.
