Six GOP senators propose comprehensive aged health plan

Six Republican senators unveiled a two part plan for the elderly medical program. It would provide hospital care for 45 days and up to 180 days of skilled nursing or more than 200 days of home health care after hospital treatment for those aged 65 plus. Financing would come from a two point one percent Social Security payroll tax increase into a separate health fund. The second part would create a federally chartered private insurer pool to offer a standard policy about two dollars weekly. Senator Javits called it the best chance for 1964 law.
