CAPE KENNEDY Fla AP The Explorer 26 satellite lifted off from Cape Kennedy at 4 am aboard a Delta rocket to study space radiation and the Van Allen belt. The 101 pound instrument, on a looping 15 800 mile orbit, aims to capture high energy particle data and assess risks to future deep space missions. The flight control center reported all three booster stages fired with precision and tracking indicated a successful deployment. Launch director Robert Gray said everything worked as expected and officials would confirm orbital figures after further analysis.
