Veteran observers call the Biddeford city primary turnout a record. Mayor Clement H Deschambault led with 4 604 votes to 1 368 for former Mayor Albert C Lambert in a sweeping victory. Total mayoral tally reached 5 972 as Ward 1 reported first at 10 22 p m and Ward 4 closed at 1 15 a m. The scene featured an impromptu serenade by Biddeford's Burg band and supporters filling City Hall with cheers as the mayor promised a clean campaign and accurate figures.

J Eugene LaCourse former city official, conducting a one man citizen’s investigation, tried to observe Ward 7 ballot counting. He refused to sign as observer when urged by the ward clerk, was escorted back by two policemen, and then signed in. All seven wards reported very quiet and orderly throughout the day and night.

Westbrook Elects Democrat To Top Post In Record Turn-Out
A Democrat, Dr. Leo C. Lemieux, defeated Republican Robert B. Littlefield 2,505 to 2,379 to win the mayor’s office in a record turnout in Westbrook. The city council remained GOP controlled after William L. Clarke was re elected by 37 votes. Old Town and Eastport councils retained nonpartisan members and a write in candidate was defeated.

Chutists Found By Searchers Near East Millinocket
Two Air Force officers Capt. William B. Harris of Middletown Pennsylvania and Lt. David B. Morris of Owosso Michigan were rescued after bailing from a B5 jet during an aerial refueling mishap. Both are in good condition at Dow Air Force Base Bangor and will be interviewed about the incident. Harris was located first and aided in locating Morris in the snow covered wilderness near East Millinocket, about 40 miles southwest of Houston.
