Old Orchard Beach Adopts Staggered Council Vote Plan
Old Orchard Beach voters head to the high school gym Monday to decide on a new staggered town council. Only two two year terms and two one year terms are up for grabs while a three year term is contested. Also on the ballot are advisory referenda on nudity in licensed businesses and a ban on topless waitresses in the Bikini Tavern. The advisory measures are nonbinding.

Man killed by Saco River three falls in 1887
The 1887 Saco River flood near Somesville saw Gooch Street and surrounding Lowland flood. Joseph Bisson left his Walnut Street home to feed poultry, fell from a boat, fought to climb back aboard, and perished as the craft plunged past Gooch Island bridge.

Ride to Death on the Saco River During 1887 Freshet
Joseph Bisson perished while chasing his boat after it drifted toward the river's falls at the Springs Island bridge. He separated from a rope tether, was swept into the falls, and disappeared. Albert Norwood later found the body near the Pool breakwater and notified authorities.
