Havana reports two attacks by counterrevolutionaries in central Cuba this week. A militiaman was killed and a jeep rider wounded in Jaguey Grande, Matanzas Province, near the Bay of Pigs, while another raid near Caibarien caused no casualties. In Nashville a man identified as Warren Swanson fired air pistol pellets at James R. Hoffa during his conspiracy trial. Hoffa avoided injury, Swanson required 14 stitches, and was subdued by a deputy marshal and Hoffa’s bodyguard before being removed in handcuffs. The incident prompted defense claims of an unfair trial.
In Old Orchard Beach a 30 year old father Charles Warren Longmore and his two children died when flames engulfed the four room bungalow on Smith Wheel road. The Saco Salvation Army will coordinate aid for the Longmore family. The father re entered the fire to save his son. A nine month old baby Sidney died at Webber hospital from burns over 70 percent. Royal Sheltra of the York county council American Legion commented.
Washington AP The Labor Department reports 150000 extra teenagers listed as unemployed in November, lifting the national jobless rate to 5.8 percent and widening the November unemployment total to 3.8 million. Officials note the rise may reflect seasonal December hiring and ongoing weak employment growth, while the department investigates whether more youths are leaving school or just seeking after class work.
