Fire Displaces Nine In Biddeford Tenement Blaze

An early morning fire at 92 Washington St Biddeford driven by defective wiring left a family of nine homeless. Firefighters contained flames to the shed and kitchen of the 18 unit building with no injuries reported. Delfred Crepeau owned the structure and many apartments were vacant.

B52s Extend Raids In South Vietnam Actions

Strategic Air Command B52 bombers from Guam struck two Viet Cong concentrations in Quang Tin Province and Zone D north of Saigon. The raids, the 15th and 16th by B52s, followed prior week attacks. A government unit clashed with Communist guerrillas in Dar Lac Province, with ten Viet Cong killed and two captured.

Maine ends fiscal year in solid shape Reed reports

Gov. Reed announced Maine finished the year with a 13.7 million general fund surplus and signaled a new surplus in the current year. In the year ending June 30 revenues exceeded appropriations by about 9 million, with 1.8 million unspent by departments. July revenues topped estimates by over 900 thousand.
