Changes In Jobless Law Set To Take Effect

Augusta AP report states that 1965 legislation to relax penalties under the unemployment compensation law takes effect Friday. Key provisions cut penalties from the Estey Act of 1961, with several changes phased in through 1966 and 1969. The ESC Advisory Council may urge further changes, appeals may secure attorney fees, and voluntary quit or misconduct disqualifications are capped at 12 weeks or eight times weekly benefits.

Jakemans Are Honored At Surprise Reception

Mr and Mrs Adelbert M Jakeman of 30 Temple Ave were honored at a surprise reception at Porter Memorial Hall in Ocean Park for 25 years as Assembly superintendent of the Ocean Park Association. The event drew over 250 residents and featured gifts from contributors and a prayer by Rev Joseph E O Donnell.

Bergeron to resign Biddeford City Council presidency

Rudolph Bergeron announces plans to resign from the Biddeford City Council at a special meeting tonight. He has served two terms as council president and will return to teaching ninth grade science at Biddeford Junior High School after leaving the council. He was born in Dover New Hampshire and is a University of New Hampshire chemistry graduate who later studied education. He taught at Dover High School and coached hockey and cross country, plans to attend Gorham State Teachers College in the fall, and is married with two children.
