Biddeford and Saco students return September 4 facing higher enrollment. Schools add teachers and reconfigure spaces at Biddeford High and Junior High to accommodate about 1,697 students, up 32 from last year. New staff include Joan Byrne English and others. five junior high instructors join, with shifts of kitchen and cafeteria to basement and construction of a temporary study area. Some programs, lunch and gym for seniors, are reduced to fit space.

Arraignment Held In Biddeford Murder Case
A 24 year old Biddeford man faced arraignment in Biddeford Municipal Court on a murder charge for killing his 21 year old wife Laura Ruth Murphy Walton in their second story apartment at 14 Kossuth Street. Police found the woman shot in the head with a 12 gauge shotgun as she lay in a hall near a bathroom while the husband cried nearby. He claimed the gun fired during a struggle to disarm her. The victim, mother of two, was pronounced dead. Autopsy to be performed at Webber Hospital.
