The exhibit features Biddeford First Congregational Church records from 1730 with figures including Mrs. Sarah Staples, Rev. James D. Riddle, and Mrs. Luther W. Piper. Heavy Damage In Biddeford House Blaze At 406 Main

Fire ravaged a five tenement building at 406 Main Street Biddeford last night with flames mostly in two rooms and extensive smoke damage throughout. Deputy Chief Hormidas Belair noted not all occupants had insurance and the cause is under investigation with initial indication of an upstairs shed as the origin. The quick fire response prevented spread in the dense area while residents Donat Beaudoin and families and others faced damage. Spectators gathered as firefighters used the lighting unit to battle the blaze.

Morals Charge Filed In Texas Against Priest

A charge of assault with intent to rape was filed Friday against Catholic priest Rev. John Feit aged 27. The complaint, signed by Maria America Guerra a 20 year old Pan American College student, says she was grabbed from behind and a cloth placed over her face while praying in Sacred Heart Catholic church on March 23. Guerra says she bit the assailant’s finger and he fled. Feit, from Chicago, studied at the pastoral school near Edinburg and was ordained in 1959 but not assigned to the church.

Yarmouth Names New High School Principal

Daniel E Center Jr 34 has been chosen from 40 applicants to lead the new Yarmouth High School. He will start at 7500 dollars annually. A Brandon Vermont native, Center is a Dartmouth graduate with an MA in education from the University of Maine and an LLB from Boston University.

Dissident Katanga Clothing Firm Plans UN Work End Of Month

Picariello and Singer Corp expects to begin operations at a former Saco Lowell Shops building by late August making boys and students clothing. 28 women are in training for stitching with 14 due to graduate today as sessions run 9 to 12 and 1 to 4 daily. The plant will start with cutting and later stitching, employing 75 to 100 when fully underway, supplying goods to local hospitals.

Planning Survey Starts Monday in Old Orchard Beach

Old Orchard Beach begins a three phase planning survey by James W Sewall Co consultants led by Norris Thurston and Peter Duforer from Old Town. Five Die in Pre-Dawn West Virginia Fire

In Shirley Tyler County five people including a teen girl and four children perished when their home burned before dawn. The Ferrebee family and visiting Dotson and Wadsworth children slept in one room as both mothers escaped with minor burns. Local officials noted the victims include Walter Ferrebee nine and Dora Ferrebee eight. Janet Dotson four. Billie Dotson14?2. and Marybelle Wadsworth nineteen. Daisy Dotson and the girl were visiting from West Union. The mothers’ husbands were away at work.
