First Total Human Eye Transplant Performed
A total human eye transplant, the first on record, was performed at Methodist hospital in Houston. Patient John Madden, 54, received the eye from C. B. Hickman, 55, who died of a brain tumor. Surgeon Dr Donald D. Moore reported Madden in excellent condition but cautioned it is too early to assess sight.
