Maine Governor urges realistic footwear import quotas

Gov. James B. Longley asks President Ford to impose realistic quotas on footwear imports under the Trade Act of 1974. He cites Maine shoe production dropping from 58 million to 27 million pairs and industry jobs from 26 000 to 14 000 since 1968, while imports rose from 175 million to 319 million pairs.

Easter Egg Hunt Slated in Kennebunkport

Easter Sunday event at 2 p.m. behind the Consolidated School in Kennebunkport invites children up to fourth grade to hunt eggs. Prizes and refreshments will be provided by the Kennebunkport Recreation Commission and the Student Recreation Committee.

Maine wagon train finds rhythm with Curless album

Maine's bicentennial wagon train races toward Valley Forge with aid from a Dick Curless song album produced in 28 days. The project raised funds to qualify for state matching money and features Maine writers and artists. The train departs Augusta May 11 and includes shows at Old Orchard Beach and a two week exhibit in South Portland.

Epidemic Scabies Spurs Public Health Alarm in Town

Reports cite scabies reaching epidemic proportions with rising infestations and medical concerns. In Kennebunkport a pickup truck collision on Route 9 at 12 40 a m left Edmond L Hevey with minor injuries and a $500 bond. Firefighters battled three suspicious brush fires on Log Cabin Road Friday in the same area.

Webber to Hold Prenatal Class in Biddeford

Free prenatal class sponsored by the Webber Hospital Association will be held Tuesday at 7 30 p m in the Administration Building Classroom Elm Street Biddeford. Mrs Caroline Tarbox R D will speak and Mrs Gertrude Benoit RN maternity supervisor will host. A tour of the maternity department follows each class. Prenatal packs and baby books will be issued and diaper pins presented at the end. Fathers welcome.
