The Pentagon confirms evidence indicates North Korea shot down the Navy EC121 with a crew of 31. No survivors are reported after official confirmation following North Korean broadcasts. Debris sights and North Korean claims underpin the straight-laced 34 page statement.
The Pentagon offered no details on how the EC121 was destroyed as debris, including a wheel and ladder, was photographed by U S aircraft and reportedly seen by a Soviet destroyer type ship while search teams, aided by a Russian-speaking airman from Osan, scouted the Sea of Japan. Weather remained clear with good visibility as Nixon weighed a strong retaliation claim.
Cambodia chief of state Prince Norodom Sihanouk announced plans to resume diplomatic ties with the United States following U.S. recognition of Cambodia’s frontiers. Charges d affaires would be exchanged, a step short of full recognition, as Saigon signaled openness to reconsider frontier issues with Cambodia amid ongoing Vietnam War tensions.
Jacob Filler of Ferry Lane Saco plans a new furniture store at 298 Main St Biddeford after 2% years of retirement.
