Textile union official Victor Canzano will address Local 305 Pepperell Manufacturing employees Sunday at 1 p m in the union hall. He will discuss upcoming negotiations with Pepperell and other textile firms as 2 500 workers in Biddeford and Lewiston are involved. The contract expires at midnight Wednesday and a meeting with company officials and union delegates is planned for Monday at 2 p m in Pepperell hall. A New York wage policy meeting earlier sought a 10 percent raise in wages or fringe benefits.
Crown Prince Akihito wed Michiko Shoda a wealthy miller’s daughter in a ceremony steeped in Japan’s tradition and democracy. Celebrations filled Tokyo as the couple waved to crowds while a lone dissenter was detained after throwing a stone at the royal procession. Charges were withheld pending investigation as the new union marked a historic blend of modern Japan and imperial heritage.
The Army contract for the new M 60 machine guns is due next week with bids from five companies including Saco Lowell. Maine's congressional delegation led by Senators Smith and Muskie and Rep James Oliver have pressed Under Secretary Frank Higgins to consider company records and local economic conditions in the award decision.

They perform solo and join the Mexico band for a joint concert Saturday plus social events and Sunday church attendance. May return visit planned. Distinguished by conductor Horace Killam and Mexico band director Mrs Anna Crouse with chaperones and school officials coordinating the trip.
The Community Development board voted to advance the vacant textile area, despite a stock drive shortfall. Plans adjust to $300,000 purchase, $525,000 total cost, with $110k to $115k raised. New financing trims three year operations to two and a half, with watchman shifts saved. Two tenants remain, Saco-Lowell and New Era Muffler, lease ongoing through June.
