State senators Marcotte and Danton seek reelection in Maine

State Senator Guy A. Marcotte of Biddeford announces a bid for a fourth term in District 2, citing work to resolve Maine’s serious financial problems and cooperation with the executive branch. He faces Robert Farley in the June Democratic primary. State Senator Peter W. Danton of Saco also seeks a fourth term, pledging issue-based campaigning and tax reform with support for a sunset-type phase-out of ineffective programs. he owns Holiday Chateau in Saco.

Maremont gun talk draws small turnout on contract loss

Congressman David F Emery spoke at Saco Middle School on a Saturday explaining why Maremont lost the Army tank machine gun contract and outlining action in Washington. Only ten residents attended, two of them Maremont workers, with Emery alleging bias in Army testing and noting life time ammunition costs narrowed the price gap. Reginald LaCroix of Local 406 said turnout was poor and a previously scheduled union meeting was canceled.

Saco police union agrees to two year pay boost

The Saco city council will be asked to approve a two year contract with the police union increasing patrolmen pay by 10 per week. The union accepted the deal Sunday night after negotiation by the finance committee and City Administrator John Dexter. Patrolmen with six months to one year of service will receive 142.50 per week, up from 132.50, under the agreement.

Saco man charged in Beach youth death

A 21 year old Saco man was charged with operating under the influence and reckless homicide after a car reportedly driven by Raymond Merrill struck four youths on Flag Pond Road in Old Orchard Beach. William Lemire 18 died at the scene. One other youth was treated and released, two others were not hospitalized.
