President Ford Targeted Nearby Bomb Blast in San Francisco

A bomb ripped the 21st floor of a Standard Oil building near where President Ford spoke five blocks away. No injuries were reported. A group calling itself the Red Guerrilla Family claimed responsibility. Police evacuated 37 workers as officers searched the building and nearby floors for further devices.

Late Spring Storm Causes 7 Deaths

A harsh spring storm swept New England with up to two feet of snow and near hurricane force winds causing at least seven deaths. The system weakened by Friday night as it centered in the Gulf of Maine with record low barometric readings in Boston and Concord and widespread power outages and traffic accidents.

Rain Bureau Dries Up In Massachusetts License Gone

The Rain Amendment Board in Massachusetts, which has issued rain licenses for 23 years and spent $153.42, will cease operations in July as no new applicants have pursued licensing. The board’s last license holder, Dr. Wallace Howell of Lexington, failed to boost rainfall over Fitchburg in 1964 and board members previously traveled there.

Ford Pledges Extended Benefits Amid Rising Unemployment

President Ford asked Congress to extend the unemployment compensation program to end 1976 with 65 weeks of benefits and added a built in cease mechanism as joblessness nears 8.7 percent nationwide. He proposed longer aid for workers outside regular coverage and to limit resources to hardest hit areas. Meany argued hidden unemployed push the rate to 9.8 percent.
