The Bessemer Speed Boys defeated the Wakefield Cardinals 13 to 0 at Cardinal Field. Dominant defense and a late second quarter surge carried Bessemer past a stubborn cardinals unit watched by nearly 2,000 in Wakefield last Saturday afternoon. Dick Peterson, Sod Johnson and teammates led a brick‑hard line that stymied Wakefield’s attack most of the game.

County Hears Time Change Plan For Workers
The county debated staying on Eastern Standard Time until September 30 to suit White Pine workers year round. The motion failed 14 to 7. A further advisory referendum was proposed for November with three questions on Eastern or Central time and year round versus summer hours, but no decision was reached.
Vehicle Highway Funds Distributed in Michigan
Second quarter motor vehicle highway fund collections totaled 44,778,480 with 46,564,263 gross. After deductions for collection costs and Waterways Commission, 47 percent goes to the highway department, 35 percent to counties, and 18 percent to incorporated cities and villages. State allocations include Gogebic 75,199 Ontonagon 64,230 and cities such as Bessemer 7,643 Ironwood 19,072 Ontonagon 5,303 Wakefield 9,271.
