Furmanski Receives Chicago Bachelor’s Degree
Raymond Furmanski, as Anthony Raymond Furmanskiy Bessemer, was awarded the bachelor’s degree by President Robert Maynard Hutchins at the University of Chicago’s 210th Convocation in Rockefeller Memorial Chapel. Local Bowling Alleys To Open Saturday
William Mussatti proprietor of the local bowling alleys will open to the public tomorrow Saturday September 12. Alleys were resurfaced by an authorized alleyman under the American Bowling Congress plus spectator seats repainted floors varnished and minor repairs. The Bessemer Bowling Association plans a meeting next week to arrange league bowling for the coming season.

Gogebic County Insurance Unit Wins George Brown Trophy
Gogebic County Association of Insurance Agents was named outstanding local board in the state and received the George Brown trophy at a Mackinac Island meeting held last Friday and Saturday. This is the second year of the award with Gogebic previously losing to Kalamazoo by a narrow margin. D. D. Reid of Ironwood accepted the trophy, with Miss Margaret Weymerskirch and Miss Josephine Edanzi of Bessemer in attendance.

Gogebic Red Cross honors Puritan resident for 100 hours
Mrs. Ray H. Anderson of Puritan location received a Red Cross pin for 100 hours of service, the first from her area. Local groups cut 157 garments this week including 51 men’s pajamas 37 children's bed jackets and 34 women’s blouses, plus various hospital garments. St Luke’s church unit made 4 hospital gowns, Anvil Palms 33 operating gowns, and Ironwood city contributed multiple olive drab garments and accessories totaling 28 wristlets.
