Opening of schools on the Gogebic range yields lower pupil counts. Bessemer lists 935 pupils this year vs 1,004 last year, Barber 71, Washington 433, High School 421 with 5 post graduates and senior class 143. Tronwood totals 2,754 students. Wakefield grades 593 and high school 616, with overall declines from last year. Most figures compare current totals to prior year.

Christian E. Bennett longtime publisher and editor of The Ironwood Times died at his home at 121 West Arch Street at 8 45 AM Friday one day after his 73rd birthday Born August 31 1866 in New London Wisconsin he helped develop Ironwood and owned The Ironwood Times since 1905 He suffered a cerebral hemorrhage in May 1936 and a second attack recently Funeral services were held at his home with the Masonic lodge in charge Relatives from Pittsburgh Brai nard Minn and Sandusky Ohio attended the service

Two Injured In Labor Day Car Crash Near Marenisco
On Labor Day evening at 7:50, Mrs. Paul Lassila and her six year old son Gordon sustained skull fractures in a collision on Us-2 near Marenisco. They were taken to Grand View hospital. Paul Lassila of Mohawk and John Nelson of Ironwood drove the other cars. Three Lassila children had minor injuries. Lassila and the Nelson occupants were unhurt.

The state tax commission will be in Bessemer next Thursday September 14 at a.m. to hear the appeal of the Lake Superior District Power Co and the Keweenaw Land Association against real and personal property tax assessments in Bessemer. Local man killed in Chicago and two residents pass away
George Joswiak Sr. of this city was instantly killed Saturday afternoon by a street car in Chicago while visiting. He was 55. A coroner's inquest ruled accidental death. The body arrived here with Coroner C. W. Moore. Funeral services were held at St. Sebastian Church. He had worked in local mines and later ran a tavern. Surviving are a widow, one daughter, four sons, and three grandchildren. The Hilligan family also lost James Hilligan, 74, former Bessemer resident, who died of a heart attack in Appleton, Wisconsin. He had managed local meat markets and recreation parlors and leaves a widow, two sons, four step-children, sisters and a brother. Funeral services were held in Appleton. Gogebic range relatives attended.

Mrs George Stolberg Dies in Detroit After Illness
Mrs George Stolberg 46 a former Bessemer resident died Monday afternoon after a three year illness. She lived in Bessemer 1917 to 1925 while her husband worked for Corrigan McKinney Steel Co. She was active in Presbyterian church and Woman's Club in Desemer. She leaves her husband, her mother Mrs Frazier and sister Mrs D Jones of Detroit. Funeral services were held in Detroit Wednesday afternoon.
