The Gedda Cychosz American Legion post and VFW Auxiliary held Armistice Day events with speeches by Superintendent E J Oas on Americanism. Miss Eleanor Wise sang, Barbara Olson accompanied, and a poem titled Americans was read. A banquet followed with Judge Robert R Wright addressing concerns about Communism. Commander Joseph Martell presided as toastmaster.

The Bessemer Woman's Club discussed supporting a Michigan State Federation project to erect an art scholarship lodge at Interlochen Institute of Arts Campus. Dufek Emerges as Michigan Fullback Leader
Dufek, Michigan's top ground gainer and a strong fullback, wore special practice pants due to thick legs and high knee action. The Chicago-born player, modest and slow to join drills, earned early attention in 1948 and won the Meyer W. Morton Trophy in spring 1949. At 21, he scored five touchdowns last season as the Wolverines shared the conference title with Ohio State.

Dan Chovan of Ramsay left Monday for Duluth to be hospitalized. Mr and Mrs James Michelli welcomed a son at Grand View hospital on November 10. Mr and Mrs Leonard Reinerio welcomed a daughter, Susan Marie, at Wakefield hospital on November 3. Mrs Reinerio is Ruth Walz, daughter of Mrs Mary Walz. Leonore Isdebski spent last weekend visiting her mother and attended her sister’s wedding to William Aiters. Johnny Tarnaski and Lawrence Scavarda, visiting with their mothers, are in town for a week. they work in Milwaukee. Mrs George Dunstan of Taconite, Minn. is visiting this week.

At a regular meeting of the Bessember Chamber of Commerce last Wednesday night ten nominees were named for the board of directors Joseph Abelmay Louis Perotti Lawrence Martin John Turkal Anton Wisoski Joseph Bria John J Frick Raymond Barbacovi Donald Strelcheck and William C Maccani. Five will be elected with retiring directors Dante Pricco John Novascone Louis Calligaro Joseph Martell and Louis Filippini. Overs are Paul Steiger John Dimperio E J Oas Rudolph Honz and Joseph Gastino. John Dimperio was named chairman of the Christmas decorations committee and to arrange candy distribution to children.

Local youth hunter dies after accidental gunshot near Marenisco
Robert Nelson a 16 year old Bes semer youth was accidentally killed while hunting with his father Carl Nelson near Marenisco. The elder Nelson fired at a running buck. the second shot struck Robert in the right thigh. He died at Wakefield hospital from hemorrhage after being transported a mile and a half to the car. Funeral services will be held at the First Baptist church in Ironwood.
