Evanston High School’s Wildkits capped the Chicago Suburban league title with a 12 to 0 victory over New Trier, ending an unbeaten season and securing its first league crown since 1940. More than 6,000 fans witnessed the triumph engineered by early scoring drives and stifling defense.

Tuberculosis Education Campaign Faces Alarming Spread
The Michigan Tuberculosis Association warns the disease still kills more people than all other communicable illnesses combined in Michigan. About 100,000 colored message illustrations will be distributed November 15 to December 15 as part of the Christmas Seal PAT educational program led by Judge Herman Dehnke of Harrisville, the association president and program chairman.

Steiger Mill Damaged By Fire At Steel City Plant
Fire, likely from an electrical circuit, damaged the Steiger Lumber Co saw mill last Saturday morning. Detected at 11 a.m., the blaze was fought for two hours by Bessemer volunteers and crews from Ironwood and Wakefield. The mill, shut since August, was set to resume operations this week. damage estimate not yet released. Paul Steiger, owner, confirmed.

Two States Study Fish Regulations
Michigan and Wisconsin discuss reciprocal fishing rules for boundary waters. At a November meeting the Conservation Commission reviewed open seasons size limits bag limits and methods for 18 lakes and three rivers including Lac Vieux Desert and the Montreal Menominee Brule. If approved by Michigan and Wisconsin authorities the rules would take effect January 1 1950. A prior 1938 agreement allows residents to fish boundary waters without nonresident licenses. Also noted was Marilyn Nopert injured in a car crash near Bessemer and reported out of danger.

John Mooney dies at Grand View in Ramsay
John S. Mooney 62 of Ramsay died at Grand View hospital Wednesday. Born in Ireleth Lancashire England he came to the United States in 1914 and settled in Ramsay after years of work in Ironwood Ramsay and Van Buskirk. He was a Castile Mining Co. employee and member of several clubs and of the CIO Ramsay Local. Survived by widow two sons four daughters two sisters and three foster brothers. Funeral Saturday 2 pm at Vaughn Marquis church Ramsay with burial at Hillcrest cemetery. Body at J J Frick funeral home.

Pioneer Township Resident Passes
Charles O. Anderson 80, longtime South Bessemer resident, died suddenly from a heart attack while bringing wood home. Born July 3, 1869 in Porton Virginia san Laani Finland to Swedish descent, he came to America in 1893 and settled in South Bessemer with early pioneers. He worked in mines until 1904, then farmed on a 50 acre potato farm. Married Maria Sophia Mara in 1890, she died in 1941. Golden Anniversary in 1940. Survived by daughter Anton Marander, a son Arvid, four grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and sister Miss Josephine Anderson. He was a member of the Bessemer Order of Runebergs and the Temperance Society.

Elizabeth Kangas Dies After Long Illness in Bessemer
Elizabeth Kangas 56 died Monday after a four and a half year battle with Parkinsons disease. A lifelong Bessemer resident, she was born July 6 1893 in Wakefield and worked as a bookkeeper for several firms before retiring about four and a half years ago. She was active in St Marks Lutheran church and choir. Survived by sister Mrs Oscar Anderson of Bessemer, nieces Mrs Edward Carlson Duluth and Verna Anderson Pontiac, and nephew John Anderson a Michigan Tech student at Houghton. Funeral services were held today at St Marks Church.

VFW Scout Troop Attends Fall Roundup in Ironwood
The VFW Boy Scout Troop 115 with 22 members gathered at Bessemer City Hall on November 5 1949 and traveled to Norrie Park Ironwood for a Range Boy Scout Fall Roundup. A pep talk by R O Helberg and safety tips from Larry Peterson and Major James Richardson framed a night of stunts songs and a large campfire setting.
