Snow and a freezing cold wave turned streets to ice causing four Sunday night collisions and one Monday morning crash. No serious injuries were reported though several vehicles sustained heavy damage including a Ford sedan driven by Stanley Williams and an Essex owned by Aug Lintelman near Rex theatre.

Wilbur Achatz son of Mr and Mrs Louis Achatz died Monday at his home aged 75 after long illness from flu weakened condition and tuberculosis. Born in Bessemer he lived here most his life with a stint in the West seeking health. He worked for McKinney Steel Co. Funeral Thursday at 9 from St Sebastian’s church with Elks pallbearers. He was known as Dutch and was loved by many in the community.
