The drive to send the Bessemer Speed Boys to Lansing November 16 has raised 426.50 at noon Thursday. A total of 600 is needed. donors are urged to send funds to the Bessemer Herald Kelto Velin store in Bessemer or Edwin Smith in Ramsay.
Funeral services for Mrs. M. Relich aged 85 were held last Thursday at 9 a m at St Sebastian Church with a solemn High Mass conducted by Rev Francis Krosty and assisted by Rev Kenneth Bret and Rev Charles Daniel as deacon and sub deacon Burial followed at Hillcrest Cemetery Pallbearers included Stan Maslanka Louis Kulik Joseph Marshalek Leo Campart and Walter Rozumovich Attendees from out of town included Mrs Michael Baisch and Steubing Baisch Mr and Mrs Chester Shouldice and son Gary Newman GA Clarence Litl Rothschild WI and Namerous relatives and friends from range communities attended centrale
Principal Leon Hawke announces American Education Week will be observed at Washington School from November 10 to 16 with an Open House on Thursday, November 14. The public may visit classes in the morning or afternoon and parents may schedule private conferences with teachers by appointment.

The Bessemer Speed Boys opened practice for the 1957-58 season at Houghton on November 23 with 33 candidates reporting to coaches Fusi and Mestnik. The squad split into A and B units, nine returning starters noted, with fighting for the fifth starting spot. Players named include Jim Corigliano Jim Johnson Dick Hoffner and Dave Carpenedo along with Ed Die Smith and Jim Seeke among others.
The Puritan Parent Teachers Association will sponsor the autumn bazaar on Wednesday November 6 in the school gym. Volunteers are asked to donate bakery goods aprons and fancy work and to mark prices on donated articles. Fish pond donations should be marked to show if they are for children or adults.
Gogebic County joins Upper Peninsula counties for a November 3 9 Join a 4-H Club Week drive led by County Extension Agent A F Bednar of Michigan State University. Goal is raising county 4 H enrollment from 835 to 900 with emphasis on non farm areas and city clubs. Reina Hinch chair stresses 4 H citizenship and skills development for all youths.
Twenty four Bessemer Speed Boy players received letters for 1957 under Coach Peter Fusi. MVP honors went to James Leeke, with Ray Berg and John Wiemers named co captains for 1958. Additional letter winners listed by first, second, and third teams and managers.
The VFW Baton Corps will hold a games party at the Veterans Memorial building on Tuesday November 12 at 8 p m Proceeds fund uniforms and drums Public invited.
Funeral services for Mrs Anton Chiapuzio Sr. 76 were held Wednesday at Christ the King Church with Rev Louis Cappo officiating. Burial followed in St Marys Cemetery Hurley. Sons Anton Jr. and other relatives attended from Milwaukee Montreal Iron Belt Ironwood Manitowish, and numerous relatives joined from several towns.

Miss Marian Eileen Jacobson and Willis L Luckhardt announce their engagement, with Jacobson from South Bessemer and Luckhardt a Novi construction employee. Nadine Luxmore and Dr. Robert W Wieger plan a December wedding after a Bethesda ceremony. both are cancer researchers at NIH.

Jim Corgiat Bessemer Speed Boy fullback led the area with 97 season points and 181 career points, a high school record. He averaged 6.7 yards per carry, had 1,251 rushing yards on 150 attempts, and a 46.9 punting average. Jim Seeke of A D Johnston High earned a tackle on the All U P team after playing most of the season with a broken finger and served as team MVP. The couple Mr and Mrs Reino Erickson announce the birth of a daughter on November 2 at Divine Infant Hospital.
John Turkal Domenic Scavarda and Frank Wysoski depart for Lansing tonight to attend the Michigan State Notre Dame football game on Saturday. Mrs H J Hansen left for California this week to visit relatives. William P Pellew Harry Rizz ie and Pearce E Graham Jr were present at the Green Bay New York game in Green Bay last Sunday.
