Funeral of Mrs. C Harkins Held Here
Funeral services for Mrs. C Harkins mother of Mrs J W Truettner were conducted this afternoon at J W Truettner’s residence with Rev Chas M Fraser officiating. She was 70 at death and was buried in Ironwood. Survived by daughters Mrs Alice Woestell Boise City Idaho and Mrs Celestial Truettner of Bessemer, son Charles Harkins of Fronton Minn, Mrs Mildred Bain of Spokane and Rev W Harkins of Hibbing.

Deaths This Morning: Lucina Hagerman Dies at 68
Lucina M Hagerman died at 8 30 this morning at the home of Mr and Mrs Merle A Hagerman aged 68 years. She had been ill since late June and spent much of the last decade visiting relatives, largely in Bessemer. Remains will be taken to Carson City Michigan where her husband is buried.

Bloodhound Traces Thieves Through Woods to House
County officers used the county bloodhound from Hurley to Sand Rock Wis about 25 miles away to track thieves. The Oma Land and Lumber Co foreman reported meat and harness thefts. The hound led searchers to a house 2 1 2 miles through the woods where material matching the theft was found though identity proved difficult.

Basso Taken to Asylum After Violent Episode
Modesto Basso, previously jailed for choking his wife, was transported to the Newberry asylum by Officers Wigg and Frank after a violent, two and a half hour trip. He wore a straight jacket for most of the journey, torn his cell, and faced ongoing threats. His mental state is linked to his wife’s flight and prior illness with mine work injury and compensation. The trip included observations of 1150 inmates, some locals, unable to recall past lives. A war memorial tablet for mules who died in service was noted for veterans.

Schools Plan to Observe Better Speech Week
The Public Schools of Bessemer will join National American Speech Week from November 6 to 12 to promote clear, pleasant, and forceful speech. Prof Rigg Proves A Real Humorist At Puritan School Party
