Voters will use two ballots next Tuesday sized 22 by 30 inches and 9 by 15 inches. The small ballot lists three constitutional amendments for approval or disapproval while the large ballot names 154 candidates and six parties: Republican Democrat Prohibition Socialist Workers and Socialist-Labor. Each party lists 15 presidential electors. state ticket names include Gov Fred W Green and legal officers.
City council at a special session moved the First Ward polling place to the Donich building and the Third Ward to the Lead Street bus station waiting room for next Tuesday's general election. Voters will be notified by postings on the old polling place doors.
Gogebic county poultrymen are being inspected this week by Poultry Specialist L R Arnold and County Agricultural Agent C E Gunderson. They review winter feeding, ventilation, and culling plans, praise progress, and note modern buildings. Inspectees include C Johnson, W G Laughner, Oscar Hill, John Reed, Walter Swanson, Dan Connors, Jack Hongisto, Thomas Whitburn, George Abraham, Dunham, Martin Lakewold, Chas Auvonen, K Gunderson, Arvo Suvanto and Nels Bloomquist in Verona Wakefield Bessemer Ironwood.
Republicans and Democrats will contest five county offices next Tuesday while five candidates have no opposition. Seven incumbents seek re election all Republicans. Incumbents include Rep John Holland Judge Harry K Bay Sheriff John W Johnson Clerk John Luxmore Treasurer Jacob Nelson Coroners John B Chappell Charles Nyberg. New faces will fill Register of Deeds Prosecuting Attorney Mine Inspector and County Surveyor.
The Michigan and U S departments of agriculture survey rural and high schools to locate White pine blister rust across 65 counties. Infected leaves from 28 counties, including newly identified Keweenaw Dickinson Gogebic Marquette Beecher Roscommon Missaukee Gladwin Osceola Isabella St Clair, show European black currant leaves most affected. Serials urge conservation staff to submit suspected specimens to Room 727 State Building and request Circular No 22 for details.
The author urges Michigan voters to reject two proposed state amendments on November 6. He argues the Article V Section 9 pay raise favors lawmakers and questions its basis, and denounces the so called Land Shark Amendment as overreach that would enable rapid real estate grabs, urging a public vote against both proposals.
Fred Kastan a resident of the South Bessemer district died Tuesday morning at Grand View hospital after an operation He was 18 years old born in Finland on Jun 6 19 and had lived in South Bessemer for the past years Surviving are his widow and four daughters Ruth Alice Vivian and Mildred and a nephew Albert H Eastman Funeral services were held this afternoon from the Sharon Lutheran church with the Rev F BE W Eastman officiating
Kenneth Berger, 18, of this city, was injured while hunting on the north side of the Black River with Norbert Achatz and Herbert Carlson. His shotgun discharged as he prepared to smoke, amputation of the right forearm followed at Grand View hospital.
Dr W C Reineking superintendent of Grand View hospital and Mrs Reineking were injured when their car skidded and turned over near Kalamazoo on the way to a Lansing tuberculosis convention. Mrs Rees suffered five bruises but was released after treatment. Reineking had head injuries and a fractured arm. The party continued to the convention and returned home Tuesday.
Herman Lampi was injured on Tuesday after being pinned between objects near Fron Street. He was taken to Grani View Hospital for treatment.
Dedication services planned with three pastors preaching in the morning and evening as Trinity Church on Oak Street holds dedication that day. Lutherans from Ashland and Hurley invited to attend. Otto Hattstaedt of Ashland to preach. Gerhardt Marquard of Hurley to speak at Vesper. The event includes a Young People’s Debating service and musical offerings by the Walther League.
The Missouri Synod pastors of the Upper Peninsula gather at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bessemer for a three day conference on November 6 7 and 8 with a special Holy Communion service opening the event. Fifteen pastors are expected.
Bowlers form a winter league with eight teams including Heralds Arcade Colts Elks County Legion and Storny. Matches are set at Arcade and Mussatti alleys with Arcades versus Calts and Heralds against County on Monday Eight and Elks versus 40 and Legion versus Storay on Wednesday.
A perfect albino porcupine with white hair and pink eyes was shown yesterday in the windows of the Bessemer Pharma Co. It was captured this week near Lake Gogebic by the county survey crew and will be sent to Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago after the exhibit.
Bessemer High closes its football season with a Saturday game against Iron Mountain on the Gogebic ring. Iron Mountain features a strong forward passing attack led by star fullback Ronzani, who sparked a comeback against Ironwood. Last year Bessemer beat Iron Mountain 7 to 6 on home soil as the season ends with Ashland and Hurley visiting Wakefield.
The Bessemer Woman's Club plans a Tuesday afternoon meeting chaired by the library extension committee led by Mrs. W. C. Gillies. Principal speaker will be Miss Viola Olson, township librarian, with a high school student giving a book review. A textbook comparison from past years to today will be presented.

Gogebic county mines posted their best safety record for the 1927 28 fiscal year according to deputy mine inspector Theodore Johnson. Four fatal accidents occurred, with 44 fewer compensable days and 9 675 fewer compensable days. The report highlights improved safety across all operators and employees in Gogebic county.
The Bessemer Bears finished their season with a 6 to 0 win over Stambaugh All Stars to claim their second Upper Peninsula title in two years. They went undefeated except for a 0-0 tie with Tron Mountain and beat Iron Mountain and Duluth twice. Graves connected on a 25 yard pass to Gotta for the decisive score in freezing weather.
No Armistice Day observance in Bessemer this year. The American Legion post will join the Hurley Legion for the dedication of the Iron County Legion Memorial building on Armistice Day, Sunday November 11.
