Governor Dickinson is rumored to seek a late year special session to repeal useless acts and abolish costly boards and commissions. He plans no new finances for such bodies and will study minor government units for consolidation to ease tax burdens and improve services.
Disgruntled Upper Peninsula commercial fishermen warn they will seek aid from Attorney General Frank Murphy as they accuse the state conservation department of lax enforcement and beneficial ties to affluent fisheries. They suggest possible coast guard intervention on the Great Lakes if legislature adjourns without tackling bills.
Mrs Mary Sivusso Miss Edith DelAcqua and John Brach joined Mr and Mrs Joseph Michela and sons Don and Lawrence at the Laurium funeral of Tres Ben Masnade 36. She died recently leaving a husband eight year old twins Rob and Donald and four sisters Soscare Mrs Joseph Michela Mrs Joseph Garland and Miss Halith Vacqua of Bessemer and Miss Josephine Det Neqta of Licuriam
Funeral services were held Monday at the Mission Covenant Church in Ironwood for Mrs. Edgarlamar Lara mio a former resident of Negeciehs Ste. She died last Friday after illness and a stroke. Born in the city on November 2, her parents moved to Ironwood years later. Surviving are her husband and a son Leon of Petro, and her father Erik Nor Vierge.
Public meeting planned for Friday evening at the new city hall will be attended by society officials councilmen and city housing commission members. Lawrence Veo Smazel of Lansing, a member of the Michigan housing commission, will speak and provide information on housing movement efforts.

About 70 U P school executives met in Crystal Falls endorsing the proposed state aid distribution formula of 208.25 million dollars yearly while urging a larger overall aid, warning the plan would hit metro districts hardest. Names discussed include Dr Eugene Elliott and Governor Dickinson.

The Bessemer school improvement WPA project received presidential approval with a total cost of 312 162 dollars. The work includes painting varnishing removing mortar laying cement moving stairways constructing sidewalks excavating grading and landscaping at Ontule High School Washington Barber and Olburg schools.
Dr Ro o M. Dickey and Walt Spir off of the Michigan College of Mining and Technology in Houghton will lead a tour for AAAS members through Copper Country and the Marquette and Gogebic iron ranges on June 15 16 and 17.
Lou Breese introduces a new dance music concept the Dancename with neon light tempo cues. He teams with Arthur Murray to present seven popular dances including fox trots waltzes tango and rhumba at the Military Ball on June 2 with his orchestra.
Memorial Day ceremonies begin at 9 30 a m with Major L J Cartwright as officer of the day. Ramsay Legion color bearers firing squad and bands attend along with city officials and veterans. A program at the cemetery features the Bessemer high school band and speakers including Rev Jesse D Epps and Mayor Hill.
Seventy five seniors from Moorhead State Teachers College will receive degrees and diplomas at commencement on June 3 and 4. Notable graduates include John Jelmini and other leaders in football and athletics, with Julius Borass of St Olaf College delivering the commencement address. A family dinner and baccalaureate service follow a weekend of alumni events and concerts led by Rev. Charles T. Brewster.
A 250 foot brick simokestack on Mine Street at South Hecla in Calumet was dismantled recently. Local officials led the teardown, citing safety and modernization concerns for the former mining district landmark.
Charles H. Lutz and Isaac T. Turner will be honored at Memorial Day exercises at the cemetery. Major Cartwright will present, followed by decorations of the Order of the Purple Heart awarded. Both men were wounded in action overseas during the world war.
On Saturday May 27 Poppy Day will be held as war veterans in hospitals supply flowers. The American Legion auxiliary committee led by Mrs John Godlewski includes Miss Sayde Abelman who will place flowers on Memorial Day graves. Delegates and alternates from local groups attend June Crystal Falls convention.
A summer leadership meeting for 4-H leaders will be held Thursday in Ironwood Township Hall. Miss Marcella Meser will explain new food preparation and canning methods. C A Rood will discuss garden and dairy poultry clubs with Miss Meyer and Mr Rood assisting as state leaders from Marquette. A training conference will be followed by a movie shown at Camp Shaw last summer.
Rain Friday night aided firefighting against a blaze south of Bessemer that burned about 30 acres of hardwood slashings. The Ewen conservation headquarters supplied fire fighting equipment.
The annual school election will be held Monday June 12 in Bessemer city and township. Six township candidates pursue three year terms with A Jake Fink and Edwin C Carl son seeking re election. other contenders include Celia Koski Oscar Larson Albert Tillner and Peter Carpenedo. City races list Dr C E Stevens Dr R J Mullen and Henry Berg with registration periods ending June 3 and boards open June 3 at multiple locations.
The Bessem er high school ROTC inspection occurred with Major Howard W. Lehr of Knox College as inspecting officer. A theory session at 10 am, field review at 2:20 pm on Mass ie Field, band participation, medals for cadets, and several officers and sergeants named.
Gogeble county board on Monday awarded a plumbing contract to Pearce EH Graham of Bessemer for 434.44. Lake Superior Gravel Co Ramsay Was awarded the gravel contract at 8.65 a cubic yard for Washed sand and 5.0 for Washed gravel. Other contracts went to Ironwood teams for an improvement project at the fair grounds.
