Honored For Service To Community
Eight prominent community figures were honored at a testimonial banquet hosted by the Bessemer Chamber of Commerce at the Elks Club. Honorees Abe Abelman John Cychosz Joseph Ochis Adolph Skwor Charles Swanson E Hjalmer Ekman and John J Frick were praised for unselfishness hard work and faith in Bessemer with biographical notes on each man’s rise and service. Louis Chouinard and John Pelissero are home on vacation after U S Army service in Japan.

The annual Memorial Day program includes a 9 am parade from Sellar Street to Hillcrest Cemetery followed by an In Memoriam service. Joseph Martell chairs the committee with Major James Richardson and Norman Lind among organizers. veterans groups, VFW and American Legion posts, and local bands participate in ROTC and school performances.

Two Accidents In City Last Friday
Two accidents occurred in Bes semer last week injuring two people. Mrs Louis Filippini was struck by a bicyclist on Main Street and taken to Grand View hospital. Mrs Charles Constantino, thrown from a car on Moore Street, suffered facial cuts and bruises and was treated at Grand View. Mr Constantino also needed x rays but was discharged with a nose injury. The Eagles auxiliary and Eagles Aerie will hold a joint installation at the VFW clubrooms at 7 30 with lunch and dancing. Joel Schmidt and Donald Heikkinen, A D Johnston high school students, won Naval ROTC scholarships to the University of Michigan.
