Supreme Court case wipes out Indian reservations rights
The U S Supreme Court overturned a 1964 conviction for selling liquor to an allotted Indian, holding that once citizenship is granted Indians are subject to state laws and can be tried in state courts. The decision, opinion by eight of nine justices, declares allotted Indians enjoy the same rights and obligations as other citizens, ending federal guardianship in such matters.

Laws on liquor sales raise state and federal overlap
The laws occupy different planes. A liquor sale can violate both state and federal law, or solely a revenue law and police regulations. The national government imposes licenses tied to revenue, not to broaden police power.
