The Michigan state tax commission trimmed Gogebic county mine valuations by nearly 14 percent, from 32,001,000 to 27,698,000. Most reductions hit the Bessemer district, while Eureka Asteroid, Davis, Bonnie, and others saw modest raises. Three pleaded guilty in circuit court on Tuesday and another was found guilty by a jury, with sentences handed down by Judge G O Driscoll on Wednesday. Mike Poppich was sentenced to 6 months to 15 years in Marquette prison for breaking and entering a Merchandise car of Co and N W Ry at Marenisco. a $50 fine and $50 costs due in six months. Henry Hill was fined $25 plus $25 costs within 48 hours for malicious destruction of Bonifas Lumber Co property at Marenisco. Andrew Lascody and Leo Tarnaski pleaded guilty to taking Dr F D Royce’s car contents in Bessemer on Aug 5 1931 and were placed on probation for one year. Anton Huspeck 22 was found not guilty of marrying a girl under 16 without consent. The case of John Lindahl for shooting Nelson Morris on Jan 13 was postponed to the November term.

The Gogebic county tax commission will establish property levies under the 15 mill amendment on Monday May 15 with final orders due June 1. All assessing districts in the county filed their 1933 budgets this week except one. The city of Wakefield was exempted from a ruling by the attorney general.
