Public housing project approved after condemnation ruling
A Bessemer council and its housing commission reviewed federal low rent housing plans. A jury found the project necessary and awarded $1,730 for parcel one and $6,195 for parcel two with $10 for an option on parcel two. Fowler-Veranth Construction Company of Duluth submitted the winning $291,600 bid, subject to PHA and council approval. The city seeks a higher total development cap from $354,471 to $367,000 to cover increased land and construction costs.
